Welcome to the August Bulletin. This month brings together several important community safety initiatives — from National Missing Persons Week to Secure September, Get Online Week, and the launch of Crime Stoppers’ new anti–money‑mule campaign. We also look ahead to our major October events, including the NHW Coordinators Forum, AGM, Awards Ceremony and the launch of our 2027 Calendar. Thank you for everything you do to support safer, stronger neighbourhoods across Tasmania.

Good Neighbours Create Safer Communities
Tasmania Police is highlighting several long‑term missing persons cases because “answers still matter”. NHWT encourages members to share any information that may help bring closure to affected families.
Information is sought regarding Gilbert Midson, Zedric Woolley, Franz Grathwohl, Nancy Gumprecht, and Helen Munnings. Reports can be made directly to Tasmania Police or anonymously through Crime Stoppers Tasmania.
Congratulations to John Allan, who has volunteered to coordinate the Lenah Valley Community Association as a new organisational member of NHWT.
NHW Coordinators are authorised to access verified police crime reports to share with their communities — helping everyone make informed decisions about safety and security.
Secure September encourages all community members to take extra steps to secure their homes and property. The final weekend features Secure Your Home Day, where you can register at:
secureyourhomeday.com.au
You’ll receive a home‑security assessment and practical ideas to make your home less attractive to thieves.
Secure September leads into October, when NHW partners with Bunnings stores nationwide during Neighbourhood Watch Week.
Get Online Week (19–25 October 2026) supports mature Tasmanians to build confidence and safety online. Even without grant funding, NHWT continues to support this important program.
This is a great opportunity to partner with community organisations to share online‑safety information. See Key Dates for local presentations.
Crime Stoppers Chair David Daniels OAM and Assistant Commissioner Rob Blackwood have launched:

Don’t Fall into the Money Trap
Criminals are using fake job ads and easy‑money offers to recruit money mules. Many victims don’t realise they’re being manipulated until it’s too late.
The campaign includes advertising, multilingual resources and community outreach to help people recognise recruitment attempts and report suspicious activity anonymously.
If targeted: Crime Stoppers Tasmania: crimestopperstas.com.au or 1800 333 000 Cybercrime: Tasmania Police: 131 444 ACSC: cyber.gov.au Scam updates: scamwatch.gov.au
