Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania had a standout year in 2025, reaching over 80,000 homes through newsletters and social media, launching five new groups, and expanding successful community models across the state.
Highlights included Neighbourhood Watch Month in March, the Secure Score campaign to improve home security, and our Calendar Drawing Competition involving 35 schools, alongside popular events like Cuppa with a Cop (CWACs)and Bunnings sausage sizzles. Innovation came through the Facebook Coordinator model, security rebates for burglary victims in Bridgewater Division, and digital literacy programs for over‑50s through Get Online Week, supported by enhanced website features (thanks Andrew & Jonathan).
With strong backing from Tasmania Police and our dedicated volunteers, NHW continues to do stuff to make our communities safer and stronger as we look ahead to 2026.
In 2026 Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) will celebrate its 40-year anniversary of continually operating in Tasmania. This is a real opportunity to celebrate but also promote all the good things that an active NHW can do in your community. Your non-negotiable task to support this occasion is to attend our 2026 Prize Giving and Awards Ceremony at the Tasmania Police Academy on Saturday, 17 October 2026. Put it in your diary and mark it on your calendar now!
Our 2026 Calendars are now available but going fast. Ask your Coordinator how you can get yours. More importantly, make a commitment to promote our calendar drawing competition to be launched early next year. Details will be in the February 2026 Bulletin. Be the person who can champion this flagship initiative in your community.
Cybercrime has been described as the modern form of burglary. What’s more, you do all the work for the thief! But without too much trouble you can be very effective in not becoming a victim. Access the Australian Federal Police website and get really good information about how to protect yourself by being ClickFit: https://www.afp.gov.au/form/clickfit.
Home Security: When setting up Christmas lights, make sure any doors or windows with cords running through them can still close and lock properly. Keep all doors, windows and the garage securely locked, regardless of whether you are at home or away.
Have you settled on your New Year’s Resolution yet? To be a member or supporter of Neighbourhood Watch means you are prepared to at least Do One Thing each year to contribute to the wellbeing of your neighbourhood. It may be picking up rubbish on your daily walk, looking out for a lonely neighbour or helping host a Cuppa with a Cop (CWAC). More ideas can be found in our previous Monthly Bulletins located at: https://nhwtas.org.au/media-and-resources/ or in our Neighbourhood Watch Australasia Journals at: https://www.nhwa.com.au/news-media/journal/. Have a browse and draw pride and motivation from what we do all across Australia and New Zealand.
This App has to be the easiest way to improve your neighbourhood, whether it is an errant shopping trolly, dumped rubbish or overgrown street sign, you can report it through the Snap Send Solve App and usually have the problem fixed within a short period of time. It works!
