This year Get Online Week (GOLW) runs from 19 October to 26 October 26 – straight after we have concluded our 40th Anniversary celebrations. NHW has supported this program for a number of years by organising presentations for older people to improve their confidence and skills about being online.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available for community groups to help fund a presentation. We traditionally support this project, and you can apply for a grant here: https://my.goodthingsaustralia.org/s/apply-for-a-grant.

This would be an excellent resource to add value to any Get Online Week presentation you are preparing. It would also be good just to click the links and be personally better protected!
For our 40th Birthday AGM and Awards ceremony we want to make sure that you have had the chance to nominate deserving members for a Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania Award. Don’t be the person who queries why member X is never recognised for their contributions to NHW in their communities.
Nominations close on 31 July 2026 and you can start the ball rolling by sending an email with your nomination through to admin@nhwtas.org.au. There is no prescribed form – just throw your thoughts in an email and we will make it work!
Members of the community are ALSO invited to submit a nomination for a police officer who has made a significant impact or contribution through community policing, or who has demonstrated sustained or outstanding community-focused policing efforts within Tasmania.
The recipient of the award will be announced at The Tasmania Police medal and award ceremonies later this year, and will be presented with a citation by the Commissioner.
Nominations close on Friday, 31 July 2026.
It’s a big birthday coming your way! This notice contains a lot of important detail, so you are encouraged to read it carefully.
On Thursday, 15 October 26, the Board of NHWA (our peak body) will meet in Hobart and celebrate their 20th birthday.
On Friday, 16 October 26, Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania will host a Forum for NHW Coordinators from anywhere in the country or NZ – but specifically for Tasmanian Coordinators and their team members. The Forum will include presentations from member jurisdictions with the opportunity for a Question-and-Answer session and networking. The Forum will be held at the ABC Centre in Hobart.
Forum seating is expected to be at a premium, all Coordinators are invited but there may be opportunities for active members to represent their Coordinator or nominate themselves to attend. It will start at 8.30am on Friday morning, 16 October 26. The agenda will be finalised as we get closer to the day. You can register your interest in attending by email to admin@nhwtaws.org.au.
The Annual General Meeting for Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania will be held at 10am on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at the Tasmania Police Academy, Rokeby. All members and their guests are cordially invited to attend. The AGM is a necessary formal process that organisations, such as ours, are required to hold, primarily to elect our Board of Management for the next 12 months, but also to make any necessary changes to our rules or policies. It is usually a short meeting.
After the AGM, at 11am, we will hold our Awards and Prize Giving Ceremonies. Commissioner Donna Adams is our guest to help present awards to deserving NHW members; and prizes to those children who were winners in our Calendar Drawing Competition.
Because this is a day of great celebration, our 2027 Calendar will be launched and freely available; our birthday cake will be cut, and everyone is invited to share in that famous Tasmania Police Academy spread!
Because we want everyone to have enough to eat, we really need people who are coming to let us know. Just send an email to admin@nhwtas.org.au and tell us the names of everyone you are bringing with you. This is a rare opportunity to be there to help celebrate history. RSVP now – the day will be here before you know it!
Congratulations to Melanie Smith who has volunteered to help establish a Neighbourhood Watch group for Windermere which is located on the eastern banks of the Tamar River in the north of the state. NHW Coordinators are authorised to access police crime reports to share with their communities – because being officially notified helps you to make informed decisions about the safety and security of yourself and your neighbourhood.
Think U Know is an education program led by the Australian Federal Police to prevent online child sexual exploitation by equipping parents, carers, and educators with vital information. As a partner in this program, NHW volunteers can train to be Think U Know presenters to deliver these important messages across our communities.
Basically, it involves online training, a National Police clearance and the ability to deliver a presentation to adult audiences.
As a NHW volunteer, if you would like to find out more about the program and what is involved for presenters, you can email me to arrange a phone call or contact Darcy at admin@nhwa.com.au.
