WELCOME TO GET ONLINE WEEK 2025

get online week 2025

Every year Neighbourhood Watch has actively supported Get Online Week (GOLW) which is a national initiative to help Australians feel more confident and safer when they are doing things online. Grants of $1,000 are available to community organisations to host events. Our groups regularly use the grant funds to host a social event, such as morning tea or scone time, with a guest presenter to help build online confidence and skills.

Get Online Week grant applications will be open from 16 June to 18 July. So, you have one month to get ready to apply for a grant to host an event in your community. The GOLW runs from 20 – 26 October 25. Neighbourhood Watch Australasia (NHWA) for a $300 fee will assist groups that want to apply. We have found this is the most successful way to receive a grant because applicants have to have an ABN and there is work in applying and aquittal.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH TASMANIA AWARDS LAST CHANCE!!

Nominations for Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania Awards are always open, but they do have to be received by 30 June 25. We have many worthwhile contributors to our objects and purpose but often their achievements will only be recognised if someone tells us about them. If you know someone who should receive one of our awards, send an email with their details to admin@nhwtas.org.au and we will do the rest – can you think of any reason not to?

WELCOME TO NEW WATCHES

A very warm welcome to two new watches that have recently been established in Tasmania. Ken Smith has taken on the Coordinator role for our new Lindisfarne Watch which also incorporates Rose Bay and Geilston Bay. Paul Scowen has volunteered to be the Coordinator for a new Watch at Oatlands that also incorporates Parattah. The next publication of the Southern Midlands Regional News has more information about this new Watch.

TIME HAS RUN OUT!

Our Calendar Drawing competition closed on 31 May 25. Thank you to all those members who encouraged children to enter. Just like elections, we do allow a few grace days for postal entries to arrive. Winners will be announced before 31 August 25.

HOME SECURITY TIP – NO. 8

Social Media: Avoid posting information about gifts received or new items purchased on social media, or if you are going to be away from home. Thieves can stalk social media and find who has the best loot worth taking, and when the home will be vacant. Think about waiting until you return home before you post your holiday snaps!
