Raising awareness of the community benefits of joining a local Neighbourhood Watch group, and effective ways to keep homes and property secure. Anyone can take our Secure Score Quiz at any time. It is a free and easy way to rate your home’s security, or to find your local Neighbourhood Watch group. Go to: https://www.nhwa.com.au/resources/secure-score/. I do the Secure Score every year and always get valuable feedback about what I am doing right – but also some simple tips that can help improve my home security.
Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with their neighbours, while also helping to address loneliness across the nation. You can celebrate in a variety of ways including hosting or supporting events that assist and engage your communities. Get involved in Neighbour Day – and get connected!
From Neighbourhood Support – our Kiwi Partner. “When we first signed up to help with Neighbourhood Support, we thought we were just giving a few hours of our time. What we didn’t expect was how deeply it would shape us. Volunteering connected us to people we might never have met—neighbours, elders, teens, newcomers—all working side by side. It reminded us that community isn’t just a place, it’s a feeling. A shared purpose. A quiet promise that we’re here for each other.
“We found ourselves learning new skills, gaining confidence, and feeling more grounded. Even on tough days, showing up and lending a hand can bring a sense of purpose and hope.
If you’ve ever wondered whether volunteering makes a difference, we can tell you: it does, not just for those we serve, but for ourselves. It builds bridges, lifts spirits, and reminds us that we all have unique talents and something to give. Let’s keep showing up—for each other, and for the kind of community we believe in.”
