Secure September is a month-long initiative to encourage everyone to review their home security, using the Secure Score tool to identify improvements they can make. Try it out, it is quick and simple to use and quite enlightening. There are national radio ads, online blogs, and a printable Spring Clean for Home Security Checklist.
The checklist provides a simple way for households to review security measures in and around their home to identify any areas that may need attention. Use this link to download the checklist: https://crimsafe.com.au/secureseptember/ and checkout these other resources on the Neighbourhood Watch Australasia website: https://www.nhwa.com.au/.

Every year we are fortunate to have the support of Bunnings Crime Prevention Week (CPW) to complement our Neighbourhood Watch Week. Bunnings has recently launched Safer Places, a national program to support practical crime prevention initiatives across Australia with $2 from the sale of selected home security products contributing to a Community Safety Fund.
This year the CPW runs from 12 – 18 October 26. This is an unfortunate clash with our Anniversary celebrations. However, the Activities Organiser at any of the seven Bunnings Warehouses in Tasmania are still keen to support NHW activities in the weeks commencing 5 October and 12 October 2026.
Get Online Week (GOLW) runs from 19–25 October 2026, when NHW supports the Good Things Foundation to help mature Tasmanians build confidence and safety online.
Even when we don’t receive grant funding, we support this program because it is vital for helping older Tasmanians stay safe from online scams.
This is a great opportunity to partner with other community organisations to share online‑safety information. See the Key Dates section for presentations near you.
This October Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania is celebrating its 40th birthday with the 20th anniversary of Neighbourhood Watch Australasia (NHWA). The NHWA Board will hold their AGM in Hobart on Thursday, 15 October 26, to be present for two key functions on the days that follow.
On Friday, 16 October 26, there is a Coordinators Forum at the ABC Centre for all NHW Coordinators in Tasmania with guest presenters from around the country. Because seating is limited, only Tasmanian Coordinators and their nominated assistant can be accommodated. If you are a Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator, and you want to come, confirm your attendance with an email to: admin@nhwtas.org.au before 17 September 26. This really is an opportunity not to be missed.
However, the piece de resistance is the AGM to be followed by our Awards and Prize Giving Ceremonies at the Tasmania Police Academy, starting at 10am on Saturday, 17 October 26. All members and their families are invited to attend to help celebrate these special occasions. To make sure everyone attending will be well fed we ask that you RSVP with numbers to: admin@nhwtas.org.au before 17 September 26.
A special mention this month to our Greater Glenorchy Coordinator, Peter Vogelsanger, who has been working with Northgate Shopping Centre to actively promote Neighbourhood Watch with eye catching new signage to encourage new membership.
Just another example of what a DOT can look like! Thank you, Peter, and thank you Northgate.

The winners in our 2027 Calendar Drawing competition have been notified of their success. They have all been invited to come to the Tasmania Police Academy at 11am on Saturday, 17 October 26 to receive their prize and help us celebrate 40 years of service to our Tasmanian Communities.
Please come to help us celebrate the achievements of these children as well as the NHW members who are to receive awards. RSVP by 17 September 26 to admin@nhwtas.org.au so we know how many people are coming!
Our 2027 Calendar will be launched at this event. Be there to get one of the first free copies.
Recipients of Neighbourhood Watch Awards for 2026 will be announced in a Special Bulletin next week. Please remember that nominations can be made anytime, although our closing date for 2026 has passed, we are happy to start collecting nominations for 2027.
However, nominations for the annual NHWA Volunteer of the Year; and Police Officer of the Year Awards do not close until 30 October 26 so there is still plenty of time to nominate our outstanding representatives for these awards. We all know someone who is deserving of being nominated – so don’t leave it to someone else to help recognise one of our champions. You can nominate directly by following this link: https://www.nhwa.com.au/news-media/awards/ or send an email to admin@nhwtas.org.au
